Serve Like Simmons, 2023

October 31, 2023 Charis Ochu

On October 19, 2023, Hardin-Simmons University observed its semi-annual Serve Like Simmons event. This is an opportunity for the campus to come together and serve various community organizations, including Boots on the Ground, West Texas Food Bank, Abilene Zoo, and more.

Aubrey Shea, a sophomore at HSU, volunteered at the West Texas Food Bank. She packaged apples to be distributed later in the week. “I always love helping in any way, no matter how big or small,” she shared.

HSU students built a ramp with Boots on the Ground.

“It was wonderful to be a part of Serve Like Simmons,” Acacia Andersen, a freshman at HSU, said. “I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve the Abilene community alongside my peers.” She worked at Disability Resources Inc. and visited with the residents.

A group of students volunteered at the Abilene Zoo to help with painting and gift shop inventory. Another group helped at the Salvation Army by cleaning closets and the kitchen floor, and others assisted in building a ramp with Boots on the Ground.

Be on the lookout for next semester’s Serve Like Simmons! We would love for you to join us!
